Intercultural Education
The Intercultural Education is considered the reference framework of this group, giving origin in 1992, to its denomination as a Group of Investigation in Intercultural Education (GREDI).
This line of investigation had its beginnings in studies regarding educational models in multicultural contexts, which made us possible to opt for an intercultural proposal. This model is continuously evolving and has been enriched itself with several investigations that confront the theoretical discussion with the practice in education, putting in question the concept itself; leading us to incorporate other approaches and other theoretical and methodological key elements like the socio-critical perspective. As a result and accompanying this process, some new and fundamental constructs were identified in reference to Intercultural Education, namely the development of intercultural skills and/or the diversity managing in organizations. Furthermore, the investigations that have been made equally opened new settings for example: companies; educational and cultural institutions, public administration, and others.
The highlighted outlines in this line of investigation are:
- The diagnosis of the educational practice in multicultural contexts;
- Several studies focused in values that surround the intercultural dialogue
- A specialized teachers training programme
- The incorporation of an intercultural education in the primary and secondary schools curriculums and also in universities
- The development of theoretical models and educational resources for the training in intercultural competencies and its evaluation
